Joining a Shared Session

Another person can share a running vord session with you. You receive a link, a QR code, or a code starting with VORD-SHARE-1.. How sharing works on the host side is described under Sharing a session.

Open the link you received. vord uses the already open main window and selects Shared with me. A minimized window becomes visible again. If no main window exists yet, vord opens one. Repeated link clicks do not create additional main windows.

The accept dialog is already filled in. While the app starts, it waits for the initialization; you do not need to open the link again. Read the notice about the foreign session and then click Connect. Opening the link alone does not accept the invitation.

You can also paste the link or code manually under Shared with me → Accept a share…. The settings under Connections → Session Sharing offer the same entry point. Without vord installed, the link shows the code for copying in the browser.

After connecting, Conversation opens by default. Messages, replies, code, and tool output use the width of your window. The host’s window size determines neither your text column nor your font size. You can load older entries above the history; while loading, your reading position is preserved. The shared history can also contain entries created before the invitation.

If the session has no structured conversation history, vord shows the current terminal output as readable paragraphs and blocks. Code, tables, and diffs keep their characters and can be scrolled horizontally. A notice identifies this view. If the connection drops, already received content and your message draft are preserved.

With Terminal you can switch at any time to the faithful terminal view. It is meant for full-screen programs, cursor control, and direct keyboard input. There the host’s grid is preserved and can therefore have proportions that differ from your window. A size change on your side never changes the host’s terminal or process.

With write access, an input field appears below the conversation. ⌘Enter or the send arrow sends the draft once; Enter inserts a new line. Questions and approvals appear as native pickers. For multiple selection, you confirm the desired checkboxes together. You write free text in the input field. Read-only guests see the content without reply and send controls. If the host changes your rights, input is enabled or disabled accordingly.

Shared child sessions appear in the family bar. Each keeps its own history, draft, and reply state. Switching does not mix in content from another session.

  1. In the Sessions tab, open accepting a share via the person-with-plus symbol.
  2. Scan the QR code or choose the manual code entry.
  3. Read the notice and tap Connect to this session.

A link from Mail or Messages also opens the accept view. If sign-in or device registration is still missing, the invitation waits for it. The mobile guest view currently shows the streamed terminal output; the new conversation view described above belongs to the Mac guest view.

vord shows the actual progress: invitation is being verified, connection is being established, connected, ended, or failed. When reconnecting, already received entries remain visible. A share ended by the host receives a corresponding notice and then disappears from the overview.

Leave ends your guest access. It does not end the session or the agent on the host. Shares, write access, and the host terminal are managed exclusively by the host.

The guest receives the terminal content, the available conversation history, and the status and questions of the shared session and its shared children. Other sessions of the host are not included. Account-private media galleries, notifications, usage overviews, and workflow decisions are not transferred over this guest channel.

With write access, you can also paste images from the clipboard in the terminal view, provided the host supports this feature. With older hosts that do not support plain pasting, an image can be sent directly. The native conversation input accepts text.

An invitation is bound to the guest account named by the host and can be redeemed once. If it has expired or already been used, the host must create a new invitation. An already accepted access remains available under Shared with me.

The invitation uses https://hub.vord-app.dev/share#…. The code sits in the fragment after #, which browsers do not send to the web server. On Apple devices, the verified domain routes the link to vord. A link always opens the accept dialog first; joining happens only after your confirmation.
